Can We Cure Ear Ringing With Treatment?

If you have tinnitus, you just want to be done with it.  No fooling around.  You just want it cured.  There are numerous treatments out there, but you want to know if you can cure ear ringing with treatment.

Usually there is no cure for ear ringing, even with treatment.  The only cases where a cure is likely are when there is an underlying cause for the tinnitus.  If tinnitus is due to an ear infection, for example, clearing up the infection will likely stop the tinnitus.  Another example of this is when there is actual damage to the structures of the ear that can be corrected by surgery.  Or, if ear wax impaction is the problem, the ear noises should go away as soon as the ears are cleaned out by candling or by some other method.    For these people there is a cure for ear ringing with the proper treatment. 

Some consideration has been given to a cure for ear ringing with herbal treatment.  The Chinese and other herbs are thought to relieve tinnitus symptoms.  Goldenseal is one herb that can be used alone or in combination with black cohosh to relieve ear noises.  Sesame or sunflower seeds can be eaten.  Several herbs can be used in teas to provide freedom from tinnitus symptoms.  Some of these are fenugreek seed tea, sunflower hull tea, and mistletoe tea. 

There are a few old remedies that have been touted by the older generation as a cure for ear ringing treatment.  Many of them have been passed down and are still used today.  One is to put three or four drops of castor oil in each offending ear, and cover the oil with cotton.  Some use one drop on onion juice in each ear three times a week.  Eating spinach and other good food sources of zinc is considered to be a cure for ear ringing treatment that works. 

A few of the therapies that are put forth as cures for ear ringing are strange-sounding treatments.  One of these is hyperbaric oxygen therapy.  In it, patients are put in a chamber under pressure (more than one atmosphere of pressure), and the chamber is filled with oxygen (100 percent oxygen).  This has been shown to help some people to gain relief of their tinnitus symptoms, possibly due in part to the increased oxygen to the inner ear and brain. 

For some, a tinnitus cure is very possible.  In these cases though, it is not so much a tinnitus cure as it is that the tinnitus going away is a by-product of the cure of some other condition.  For most with who would try to cure ear ringing, there is only treatment.
