Sometimes a rining in the ears can come on a person for a certain reason.  When that cause is resolved the tinnitus may go away just as easily.  For others, though, they are unfortunate enough to experience a more permanent ringing in the ears. Treatment may become necessary for these people.

If you have ringing in the ears, treatment may consist of changing your lifestyle.  Get more exercise; it will improve circulation in your auditory system along with the other parts of your body.  Quit smoking; again to improve circulation, and also oxygen levels.  Eat a healthy diet, avoiding caffeine, chocolate, and alcohol.  All these methods will help your ringing in the ears.  Treatment like this is just common sense.

Certain vitamins and minerals may help with the problem of ringing in the ears.  Treatment consists of adding more of the B vitamins and minerals like zinc and magnesium to the diet.  This can be done through foods or through multivitamins and mineral supplements.

For those who suffer a long time with ringing in the ears, treatment may require a more serious commitment from them.  This is true of all the desensitization techniques.  Tinnitus Retraining Therapy is the use of sound generators to gradually habituate a person to the sounds of his or her tinnitus.  Counselors also train the person to look at tinnitus differently.  This all takes a minimum of six months.  Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment is a similar process and lasts about the same amount of time.  The main difference is that the device used sends out a signal that contains music.  Auditory Integration Therapy is a little different, in that the sound listened to is music with specific frequencies blocked.  This too requires a commitment of several months to relieve ringing in the ears.  Treatment by desensitization may work for many people, but only after they have devoted a certain amount of time to it.

Some people require surgery, not only to relieve their tinnitus, but to improve their hearing as well.  One such surgery is the stapedectomy.  It is a microscopic procedure performed on the inner ear to correct damage to its structures.  Research has shown that hearing usually improves after the surgery, and tinnitus is relieved in about half of the cases.  This ear ringing treatment is only indicated for patients who have inner ear damage.

There are so many ringing in the ears treatment options that it is hard to list them all.  If you have tinnitus, it may just be time to start exploring those options and get down to the business of your ringing in the ears treatment.
